Abstract
Abstract A molded packing, comprising a volute laminate of a composite sheet material compressed into a unified annular form of rectangular cross-section. The composite sheet material is formed by unifying an expanded graphite sheet and a reinforcing core member, the laminated core facilitating insertion and removal of the packing and improving sealing performance. The composite sheet material may be formed by pressingly contacting one or two expanded graphite sheets to a core member. The core member may be formed from a metallic net, a metallic foil or a plurality of fine metallic threads.
