Abstract

Abstract A binder for low density lipoproteins (LDL) consisting of sulphated polyvinyl alcohol which is cross-linked by the chemical or the physical route to a waterinsoluble product. The binder may be in the form of a hydrogel which is applied or not to a carrier or it may be present on the surface of a polyvinyl alcohol fibre which is preferably in the form of tape having a thickness of 0,1 to 2 μm and a width of 0,5 to 6 μm. The fibre shaped binder is prepared by successively cross-linking with an acidified aqueous solution of glutardialdehyde and sulphating with chlorosulphonic acid.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 41 words
Method for the clinical removal of low density lipoproteins (LDL) from blood or blood serum in an extracorporeal treatment, comprising binding said low density lipoproteins to a binder consisting of sulphated polyvinyl alcohol which is cross-linked to a water insoluble product.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 41 words
Method for the clinical removal of low density lipoproteins (LDL) from blood or blood serum in an extracorporeal treatment, comprising binding said low density lipoproteins to a binder consisting of sulphated polyvinyl alcohol which is cross-linked to a water insoluble product.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
Method according to claim 1, characterized in that at least 20% of the vinyl alcohol groups are sulphated.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 18 words
Method according to claim 1, characterized in that at least 50% of the vinyl alcohol groups are sulphated.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 18 words
Method according to claim 1, characterized in that at least 65% of the vinyl alcohol groups are sulphated.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 25 words
Method according to claim 1, characterized in that the binder is in the form of a hydrogel which is applied or not to a carrier.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 35 words
Method according to claim 1, characterized in that the binder is so cross-linked that after swelling in a physiological salt solution the weight ratio of swollen gel to dry matter is 10 to 75 g/g.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 35 words
Method according to claim 1, characterized in that the binder is so cross-linked that after swelling in a physiological salt solution the weight ratio of swollen gel to dry matter is 30 to 50 g/g.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 20 words
Method according to claim 1, characterized in that the binder is present on the surface of a polyvinyl alcohol fiber.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 33 words
Method according to claim 8, characterized in that the fiber is in the form of tape, and has a thickness of 0.1 to 2 μm and a width of 0.5 to 6 μm.
