Abstract

Abstract Surfaces of articles molded from unfilled or lightly filled liquid crystal polymers have a tendency to peel away when subjected to even slight rubbing. Such surfaces are improved by subjecting them to abrasion to remove at least 0.01 mm of surface thickness, whereby they acquire a smooth matte finish and are no longer susceptible to peeling.

Claim 1
Independent Claim 83 words
A process for improving the surface of an article melt fabricated from a composition consisting essentially of a liquid crystal polymer and 0 to about 5 weight percent of filler, based on the weight of the liquid crystal polymer, wherein the surface to be improved, which is initially susceptible to peeling, is subjected to abrasion so as to remove at least about 0.01 mm of the surface thickness, whereby the surface acquires a smooth, matte finish and is no longer susceptible to peeling.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 83 words
A process for improving the surface of an article melt fabricated from a composition consisting essentially of a liquid crystal polymer and 0 to about 5 weight percent of filler, based on the weight of the liquid crystal polymer, wherein the surface to be improved, which is initially susceptible to peeling, is subjected to abrasion so as to remove at least about 0.01 mm of the surface thickness, whereby the surface acquires a smooth, matte finish and is no longer susceptible to peeling.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 17 words
