Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 108 words
An embolic protection filtering device, comprising: an elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end; a filter coupled to the shaft, the filter including a filter frame, and a filter membrane coupled to the filter frame; and the filter membrane and the filter frame expandable between a collapsed position and an expanded position, in the expanded position, the filter membrane has a proximal region and a distal region, the proximal region defining a generally smooth sided open filter mouth and the distal region includes including one or more pleats, wherein the pleats are defined by one or more bonds between the filter membrane and the shaft.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 108 words
An embolic protection filtering device, comprising: an elongate shaft having a proximal end and a distal end; a filter coupled to the shaft, the filter including a filter frame, and a filter membrane coupled to the filter frame; and the filter membrane and the filter frame expandable between a collapsed position and an expanded position, in the expanded position, the filter membrane has a proximal region and a distal region, the proximal region defining a generally smooth sided open filter mouth and the distal region includes including one or more pleats, wherein the pleats are defined by one or more bonds between the filter membrane and the shaft.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 13 words
The filtering device of claim 1 , wherein the shaft comprises a guidewire.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 22 words
The filtering device of claim 1 , wherein the shaft comprises a tubular filter cartridge configured to be slidable over a guidewire.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 28 words
The filtering device of claim 1 , wherein the filter includes a proximal region and a distal region, and wherein the pleats are disposed at the distal region.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 19 words
The filtering device of claim 1 , wherein the pleats are defined by inward deflections of the filter membrane.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 26 words
The filtering device of claim 1 , further comprising one or more support fibers extending from the filter frame to a distal end of the filter.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 25 words
The filtering device of claim 6 , wherein the pleats are defined by one or more bonds between the filter membrane and the support fibers.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 104 words
A medical device, comprising: an elongate shaft having a proximal region and a distal region; a filter coupled to the shaft adjacent the distal region; the filter including a filter hoop, one or more struts extending between the filter hoop and the shaft, and a filter membrane coupled to the filter hoop and extending distally therefrom; and the filter membrane including a proximal region and a pleated distal region, wherein the pleated distal region is defined by one or more longitudinal bonds between the filter membrane and the elongate shaft, the pleated distal region being configured to augment the surface area of the filter.
Claim 10
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 13 words
The medical device of claim 8 , wherein the shaft is a guidewire.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 21 words
The medical device of claim 8 , wherein the shaft comprises a tube configured to be slidably disposed over a guidewire.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 26 words
The medical device of claim 8 , further comprising one or more support fibers extending from the filter hoop to a distal apex of the filter.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 17 words
The medical device of claim 11 , wherein the filter membrane is coupled to the support fibers.
